Institute presentation

The Institute of Cardiology is the main Polish clinical centre of cardiology and cardiosurgery. Since the moment of institute creation, it has been a pioneer in introducing and propagating many new methods of cardiac diagnosis and treatment. All main innovative interventional methods of cardiac therapy now used in Poland have been introduced by the Institute of Cardiology specialists.

Intensive Cardiac Therapy Clinic (ICTC) is the autonomous department of the Institute of Cardiology. It has 21 beds fully equipped with arrhythmia and invasive hemodynamic monitoring. It also provides non- and invasive ventilation therapy, bedside renal replacement therapy, mild therapeutic hypothermia and mechanical support for heart failure. ICTC provides 24 hour/7 days a week readiness to treat emergency patients who need either cardiac or cardiosurgical interventions. In cooperation with hemodynamic laboratory ICTC is the core of the Institute of Cardiology. More than 1000 patients are treated for STEMI or NSTEMI annually and about 5% of these patients display symptoms of cardiogenic shock. The ICTC has a very well-trained and professional staff not only in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes, but also in valvular heart diseases, cardiomyopathies and supra- and ventricular arrhythmias.
