Institute presentation

Stiftung Institut für Herzinfarktforschung [Foundation IHF] supports cardiovascular clinical research focusing in particular on investigating patient care and quality standards in day-to-day clinical practice. Simply put, our aim in cardiovascular medicine is to save lives, extend lives, and improve lives.

Our foundation’s activities aim at:

  • Preventing acute myocardial infarction and investigating optimal therapies
  • Implementing therapeutic guidelines in routine practice
  • Applying results from randomized trials to medical practice
  • Educating the public about myocardial infarction to shorten the time between event and therapy

ARO – ACADEMIC RESEARCH ORGANIZATION

Foundation IHF regards itself as an Academic Research Organization (ARO) with non-industry funded cardiovascular research making up a considerable portion of its activities. In this respect, Foundation IHF sets itself apart from traditional Contract Research Organizations (CRO).

In 2013, we have established the IHF GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of foundation IHF, as a Contract Research Organization also located in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

IMPROVE THE QUALITY STANDARDS IN CARDIOLOGY

Our support enables extensive patient registries for acute myocardial infarction, stable coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmia as well as randomized trials for new therapy strategies to better treat myocardial infarction. With these investigations, we contribute crucially to assuring highest standards in cardiology.

ROLE OF FOUNDATION IHF IN CULPRIT-SHOCK

Foundation IHF was involved in conducting the previous IABP-SHOCK II trial and has been responsible for electronic data capture, monitoring, and statistical analyses. In CULPRIT-SHOCK the tasks are split of: foundation IHF retains the scientific guidance in persona of Professor Zeymer (coordinating investigator of the trial) and Dr. Schneider (statistician of the trial). The IHF GmbH is responsible for electronic data capture, monitoring, and performing statistical analyses.

In January 2013, IHF GmbH Institut für Herzinfarktforschung was established as a 100% subsidiary of the Stiftung Institut für Herzinfarktforschung [Foundation IHF] headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany.

CRO – CLINICAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION

The IHF GmbH focuses on contract research. Together with the foundation IHF, we have all the expertise and resources required to perform studies on cardiovascular diseases and other medical areas.

Supported by an outstanding infrastructure including tools such as our specifically designed EBogen data collection system we are specialized in large patient numbers and maintain some of the most comprehensive patient registries on issues such as acute myocardial infarction, stable coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmia. Our randomized trials investigate new therapy strategies specifically for cardiovascular diseases. In conjunction with our precision follow-ups covering as much as 95% of all participating patients or even more, we provide the best of quality assurance in cardiovascular medicine.

OUR ROLE IN CULPRIT-SHOCK

The IHF GmbH is responsible for electronic data capture, monitoring, and performing statistical analyses.

Before 2013, as part of our parent company, the Foundation IHF, we were involved in conducting the previous IABP-SHOCK II trial and have also been responsible for electronic data capture, monitoring, and statistical analyses.

CULPRIT-SHOCK Consortium

The CULPRIT-SHOCK Consortium consists of 17 partners from 11 different EU member states as well as Switzerland.
